First produced in 1990 at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, this is one of the most revered plays of the late 20th century, focusing on the five unmarried Mundy sisters of Ballybeg, Ireland, in the year 1936. The sisters’ older brother Jack, a priest, has just returned from serving 25 years in Africa as a priest. This joyous and fateful story is expressed through the memory of Michael, the son of Christina Mundy who occupies both a contemporary presence as narrator and a biographical presence as the young boy so deeply influenced by his family. An enchanting and eloquent celebration of life, in the words of critic Frank Rich, Lughnasa carries “…its characters and audience aloft on those waves of distant music and ecstatic release that, in defiance of all language and logic, let us dance and dream just before the night must fall.”

Politics and aristocracy meet the fairies of Fairyland in Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious comedy Iolanthe. Widely considered one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best works, Iolanthe is a zany ride to a place where romance, politics, money and magic meet – in ways only Gilbert and Sullivan could imagine!

Shakespeare’s masterpiece, considered to be the “profoundest of plays” written in the English language. As the Prince of Denmark struggles to revenge his father’s murder, Shakespeare offers us a compelling meditation on human destiny and the dark perplexity of world events.

A brilliant 20th century absurdist tragicomedy that follows two minor characters from Hamlet. The action takes place mainly “in the wings” of Shakespeare’s great play, with appearances of major characters from Hamlet. Critic Clive Barnes writes, “a worm’s-eye view of tragedy seen from the bewildered standpoint of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.” Playing in rotating repertory with Hamlet.
