Theatre Arts Scholarships Available and Audition/Interview Information

To apply for a scholarship
For the 2011-2012 School Year, the Scholarship Audition Day is Saturday, January 28, 2012. Scholarships are awarded for the entire school year.

To be eligible for a scholarship in the Department of Theatre Arts
continuing students must have a gpa of 3.0 or higher; new students must have a 3.0 gpa and must apply for admission to Boise State University by February 15, of each year.
Recipients of scholarships are expected to
be declared a Theatre Arts major and designate an option - dance, design, dramatic writing or performance; maintain a course schedule of 12 credits or more; maintain a grade point average of 3.0; demonstrate growth in your chosen option; and participate actively in the departmental production program.
Scholarships awarded through the Department of Theatre Arts
Brown Performing Arts Scholarship - an academic performance award for Theatre Arts majors. The scholarship may cover all student tuition and fees for an academic year. Two Brown Scholarships are designated as renewable and are held by the most promising and distinguished Theatre Arts majors. All current scholarship recipients must reapply for a Brown award for the upcoming academic year. Renewal is NOT automatic.
Theatre Arts High School Festival Scholarship - primarily intended for recent high school graduates. Funding for this award is generated by registration fees from our annual High School Festival held each spring. The scholarship covers a portion of tuition and fees.
Theatre Arts Department Scholarship - funded by Boise State University and is designated to cover a portion of tuition and fees.
Auditions/interviews for scholarships
are all 10 minutes in length. The Theatre Arts Scholarship Committee will be present during the audition or interview which will be held in Danny Peterson Theatre of the Morrison Center on Saturday, January 28, 2012, beginning at 10:00 a.m. You may apply for more than one option, i.e., acting and dance, design and dramatic writing. There are different requirements for the auditions or interviews depending on the option you have selected.
Preparing for your audition/interview:
Dance auditions require you to attend a classical ballet class taught by Marla Hansen in room B-111 on the Saturday of the audition at 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Please dress and be prepared to dance in class. If your area of dance expertise is other than ballet, please be prepared to perform a short combination in a style of your choice. You must bring your own accompaniment prerecorded on CD. You must also sign-up for an interview time to meet the scholarship committee following the class. Please bring a current resume and headshot.
Designer/Technician interviews require a portfolio of designs (renderings of sets, costumes, light plots); photographs of productions in which your designs are featured—may be class projects as well as realized designs.
Dramatic Writing interviews require a written statement explaining why you are interested in dramatic writing and a 3 to 5 page sample of your work. Both items will be turned into the faculty committee during your interview.
Performance auditions require 2 prepared contrasting monologues no longer than 90-seconds each. You must also submit a headshot and a current resume. As an option, you may sing 16 measures of a song in addition to your two monologues. Please bring your accompaniment prerecorded on CD. CD Player will be available at the audition.
